Try name discovery with a small limit
Start with GET https://api.redditapihub.com/v1/subreddits?prefix=program&limit=3. prefix=program restricts community names by their starting characters, while limit=3 asks for at most three community entries. It does not search post text for program and does not promise a programming result. Authenticate on your server with X-API-Key: <key> or Authorization: Bearer <key>; both headers accept this archive's key.
Synthetic response excerpt for demonstration only: {"data":[{"subreddit":"programming","count":7}],"pagination":{"page":1,"limit":3,"total":null,"relation":"unknown"},"credits":{"cost":1,"balance":99}}. This was not fetched from the API; the name, count and balance illustrate the schema only. Counts are not guaranteed globally exact. total=null is not zero communities. Do not interpret this excerpt as proof of a real archive holding or as a live membership count.
Save the returned names as candidates for your own interface and let a user choose one for a separate content request. Community discovery accepts prefix and limit only: it has no page parameter or cursor for traversing an exhaustive catalogue. A shorter returned list does not establish complete Reddit coverage. Do not carry prefix into search as though it were a content filter; use subreddit for an exact community selection there.
Keep retrieval limits and costs visible
Posts and comments retrieval does not provide complete nested threads with full metadata for every level. Instead, you receive bounded records containing available identifiers that hint at relationships. Some parent posts or sibling comments may be missing. Present parent_id and link_id may support local grouping, without a complete conversation guarantee. Content retrieval uses _doc order, not time, relevance or score; min_score filters without sorting.
A content request returns at most 100 records, with page from 1 to 100 across separate requests. Community discovery instead limits returned community entries. Neither cap establishes exhaustive or unique retrieval. Every successful protected retrieval costs one credit, including an empty result or a successful repeat: $1 per 1000 requests. Public /v1/status is uncharged and returns only static scope information and an HTTP response.
Email/password signup displays the key once before payment; the conditional 100 trial credits depend on network-wide abuse controls. Minimum paid top-up is $50 for 50000 credits, without subscriptions or expiry for purchased credits. Sign in and create an invoice before payment. Read documentation, pricing and the key page for access details, and the guide for choosing a route without assuming extra filters or server-side analytics.
